This year’s drive to collect oatmeal for the region’s homeless is underway.

Donated oatmeal, flour, grits, sugar, canned goods and other nonperishable items will go to shelters, food banks and other groups that help the homeless in the Charlotte region.

Donors can drop off food at the Heaton Hall foyer or the Cornwell Center at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road, or at Rudy’s Italian Restaurant & Bar, 6414 Rea Road.

Last year, the drive collected more than 80 tons of oatmeal, a record, says Bob Bishop, the Myers Park Baptist Church deacon who organizes the drive.

To arrange for a donation pickup or to make a monetary donation, contact Bishop at 980-613-2573 or bobbishopuk@gmail.com.
