Charlotte’s chapter of the Compassionate Friends will participate in the worldwide tribute to deceased children 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway.

The candle lighting event, launched 17 years ago, is open to parents, family and friends of all children who have died of any cause at any age. In every time zone, candles are lit at 7 p.m. Sunday, “creating a wave of light encircling the Earth,” said organizers.

Words of remembrance and music will precede the candle lighting and the reading the names of the children to be honored.

Organizers say the event is considered a gift to the bereavement community from the Compassionate Friends. Hundreds of thousands of people around the world are expected to participate.
