Man seriously injured in garage fire in Kannapolis

A man suffered serious injuries in Kannapolis early Monday when the detached garage that he lived in caught fire.

The man was taken by helicopter to a burn center in Winston-Salem. His identity has not been released.

Firefighters received a call about a fire on Grace Avenue around 2 a.m., according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

Two other homes were reportedly damaged, and one family was displaced because of an electrical outage. The American Red Cross is assisting with relocating the family.

An investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the fire.
