Train strikes, kills pedestrian at Archdale Drive

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train Monday morning in south Charlotte.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Archdale Drive near South Boulevard.

Police say they believe this was an accident. Witnesses told police the victim was walking toward the train tracks with her hood up. She was also walking into the sun, according to police.

According to police, the train engineer was not at fault. The train’s brakes and horn were fully engaged and operating properly, police said.

CMPD originally thought the pedestrian was struck by a light rail train.

The pedestrian’s identity has not been released.
