Man struck and killed while crossing Steele Creek Road

A 55-year-old man was struck by two cars and killed Monday night while crossing Steele Creek Road in southwest Charlotte.

Police said Gregory Eugene Wright appeared to have been crossing the road while walking to or from a CATS bus stop. The incident happened around 6:50 p.m. in the 10900 block of Steele Creek Road, about a half-mile from Westinghouse Boulevard.

Wright was wearing all dark clothing, police said, and it was dark where he was crossing.

Police said a driver headed northbound in a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis struck Wright. He was thrown to the ground, and then hit by a second vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Altima, that was traveling behind the first car.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers were uninjured. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the wreck, police said.

Police arrested the driver of the Grand Marquis, Tierney Glentavis Tillman, 28, on a charge of driving while his license was revoked.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the crash call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Kevin Allred at 704-336-8862 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
