A passenger in a speeding Dodge Stratus was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the car veered head-on into a CATS bus Tuesday morning north of uptown Charlotte, police said.

All three passengers on the bus were taken to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center with minor injuries, while the bus driver was uninjured, police said.

The wreck happened shortly after 8 a.m. in the 1000 block of Oaklawn Avenue, at Ethel Guest Lane off Statesville Avenue.

The bus driver had picked up a passenger and begun to accelerate when the driver of the Stratus drove out of his lane, through a turn lane and head-on into the bus, police said.

Benjamin Davis, 18, the front passenger in the car, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the car, Brandon Lamark Crew, also 18, had serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. Markies Crew, 19, was in the backseat and had minor injuries.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.

Police said they found no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

Any witnesses are asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Kevin Allred at (704) 336-8862.
