Turkeys needed for Thanksgiving meals for low income families

New Outreach Christian Ministry at 3900 Gossett Ave. in west Charlotte has put out a call for donated frozen turkeys to help feed low income families on Thanksgiving.

The turkeys can be dropped at the church 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

New Outreach is among a handful of nonprofits that offer free Thanksgiving meals for low income people. However, it differs from many because it provides the fixings of a full meal for families to take home and cook themselves. It also provides cooked meals in cases where families don’t have the means to prepare the food.

Church officials say they could serve as many as 1,000 meals this year on Thanksgiving, which is more than originally expected. Details: Pastor Brenda Stevenson, 704-398-1777.
