Man arrested, charged with DWI following fatal motorcycle wreck Saturday

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said one man was arrested and charged with driving while impaired following a fatal motorcycle wreck at Moores Chapel Road and Old Moores Chapel Road in west Charlotte on Saturday around 6 p.m.

Police said Palmer Blackshear, 39, was traveling east on Moores Chapel Road, riding a 2001 Suzuki GSX-1300R motorcycle, when he drifted into the opposing lanes of traffic.

David Richter, 43, driving a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling west on Moores Chapel Road. The two vehicles hit head-on.

Blackshear was thrown from the motorcycle. Paramedics pronounced him dead from injuries sustained in the collision. He was wearing a helmet, police said.

After screening Richter for impairment, detectives arrested him and charged him with driving while impaired.

Police are asking any witnesses of the crash to call
