Speed and alcohol might have contributed to a fatal crash early Monday, police said.

At 7:16 a.m., investigators responded to a crash on Lancaster Highway in Ballantyne. They found a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox in a wooded area beside the road, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

Authorities pronounced the driver dead on the scene, the release stated.

Police said the car was traveling south when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree, throwing the driver from the car. The driver, Andre Caprell Brown, 48, was the only person in the car.
