Charlotte traffic: Congestion from I-77 northbound wreck

Traffic is backed up on Interstate 77 northbound near Woodlawn Road after a wreck Tuesday morning.

The wreck closed the left lane for about a half-hour, causing long backups.

Wrecks also have been reported on Colony Road at Rea Road, on North Sharon Amity Road and Sudbury Road and in the 3500 block of Shamrock Drive.

In other traffic news, northbound traffic on North Tryon Street will be shifted to one of the southbound lanes each overnight this week, beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The lane shift is for construction of the Lynx Blue Line Extension.

The temporary traffic pattern will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday.

Traffic could be stopped at times. Expect delays and consider alternate routes, the Charlotte Department of Transportation said. Police will help motorists through the work zone.

Motorists on Orr Road will be able to turn right only onto northbound North Tryon.

Access to homes will be maintained. CATS will not be affected.
