Charlotte garbage to be picked up a day early for Christmas holiday

The Christmas holiday means garbage will be collected earlier than normal in Charlotte in the coming days, with some pickups this weekend.

Trash, recyclables and other items normally picked up next Monday will be collected this Saturday instead, according to the city of Charlotte.

After that, trash will be picked up one day earlier. So normal Tuesday customers will need to set out their items on Monday, Wednesday customers on Tuesday and so on.

No garbage will be collected on Christmas Day (Friday).

The change will allow the city’s Solid Waste Services staff to observe the holiday weekend with their families, officials said.

The earlier schedule applies to the collection of garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulky items.

The normal schedule resumes Dec. 28.
