Company fined for violations near coal ash disposal site
State regulators fined a company more than $4,800 Wednesday for doing work near a coal ash disposal site in Chatham County without a permit.
The Department of Environmental Quality fined Green Meadow LLC after it said the company committed permit violations for a second time.
Green Meadow is working at a former open-pit mine where Duke Energy will dispose of some ash from its power plants.
State officials cited Green Meadow last month for not getting coverage under a stormwater permit before beginning construction. In June, the company was cited for clearing and grading without a stormwater permit.
