1 killed in Gaston County wreck

One person was killed and one was hurt in an accident on Highway 321 just south of Hardin Road in Gaston County Monday afternoon.

Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that a Nissan was traveling northbound at a slow speed when a pickup truck traveling at a higher speed crashed into the rear of the Nissan.

The crash happened around 4:00 p.m.

Officials say the driver of the pickup was looking off to the side of the road at crews cutting down trees when the crash happened.

Two people were in the Nissan. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup was charged with failure to reduce speed. Officials said that other charges are pending.
