Rain moving out for now across Charlotte region; more expected Wednesday
After a soggy start Tuesday, more rain is expected to move into the Charlotte region overnight and could cause another messy commute in the morning.
Meanwhile, flooding was still being reported in portions of Union and York counties on Tuesday afternoon.
Showers and a possible thunderstorm were forecast for the region for Wednesday, with up to an inch of rain possible in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts up to 20 mph were also possible. The high could reach the upper 60s.
Flooding was reported in multiple counties after rain early Tuesday. A flash flood warning was issued in Mecklenburg County for part of the morning after rising waters pushed McMullen Creek past its flood stage and sent Briar and Little Sugar creeks near flood levels. In Union County, officials closed Cane Creek Park to boat traffic because the docks were under water.
A flood warning remained in effect for Union County until 4:45 p.m. Tuesday after run-off from earlier in the day caused closed several roads, including portions of Shannon, Lawyers and Baptist Church roads. In addition, south central York County is under a flood warning until 5 p.m.
Wednesday’s rain is expected to last all day, with another chance of showers and storms on Thursday. Conditions are expected to clear up some by Christmas Day, with a forecast of mostly cloudy skies and a high in the low 70s.
