Charlotte area may tie another record high Sunday
The December warm spell may tie a record in the Charlotte area Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday’s high is expected to reach 72, which would match a record from 1971, said meteorologist Andrew Kimball with the weather service office in Greer, S.C.
But a big storm system heading this way from Texas will bring moisture and cooler temperatures, he said.
Monday’s high will be 70, but it is not expected to approach the record of 77 set in 1971.
Kimball said there is a 70 percent chance of light rain that day. A band of rain Monday night into early Tuesday could also bring thunderstorms.
Tuesday’s high is predicted to be 67, with high temperatures falling into the mid-60s on Wednesday, 62 on Thursday and 53 on Friday, New Year’s Day. There’s also a 70 percent chance of rain on Wednesday and a 40 percent chance early Thursday.
The normal high is 51 for this time of year, Kimball said.
