1 critically injured in Concord wreck
A 21-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a wreck between a tractor-trailer and a car in Concord early Wednesday, police said.
The man was a passenger in a Lincoln Zephyr that was turning left from northbound Concord Parkway (U.S. 29) when it collided with a southbound 2013 Freightliner truck. The car was trying to merge onto Kannapolis Highway (U.S. 29A) at about 2:15 a.m., police said.
An ambulance took the injured car passenger to Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast. He was then flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was in critical condition, police said.
Both vehicles were pushed south of the intersection, with the tractor-trailer ending up in the parking lot of a Marathon convenience store.
Police have released no names of those involved in the wreck or said whether anyone else was injured.
Police said they don’t believe driver impairment was a factor, although the crash remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call Concord police Officer M. D. Barnhardt at 704-920-5033.
