Man dies in single-vehicle wreck on Wilkinson Boulevard

A 61-year-old man died Monday when his vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic on Wilkinson Boulevard and struck a utility pole, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The wreck happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday in the 6700 block of Wilkinson Boulevard.

Driver Dennis Damaschke was taken to the hospital after police found him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
