After frigid start, Tuesday could hit 50 under sunny skies in Charlotte

Despite a frigid 30 degrees at 5 a.m., Tuesday should warm to a seasonable 50 under sunny skies in Charlotte.

A cold front, however, is expected to cross the region from the northwest later Tuesday, dropping temperatures to an expected low of 26 early Wednesday and a high of 44 later in the day.

The mercury should then just as quickly rebound to a high of 54 Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Greer, S.C.

Thursday night will turn partly cloudy, with a forecast low of 34.

Rain is then expected to move into the region, with a 40 percent chance during the day Friday and a 60 percent chance Friday night, according to the weather service.

The weather will remain unseasonably warm Friday and Saturday, with forecast highs of 52 and 54.

The thermometer will then drop to 46 Sunday under partly cloudy skies and 41 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day under all sunshine, forecasters said. The normal high for this time of the year is about 49.
