Latin American Coalition sees win in Supreme Court move
Charlotte’s Latin American Coalition is among the groups that are applauding Tuesday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to take up Texas v. U.S., which has that has temporarily blocked some of President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
If the court rules in favor of the administration, an estimated 152,000 North Carolina residents – including undocumented parents of children born in the U.S. – will have the opportunity to apply for a work permit and temporary relief from deportation through DAPA and expanded DACA, said coalition officials.
The nonprofit, which advocates for Hispanic immigrants, supports the President’s executive action and predicts the court will back him.
“Today’s decision is an important win for millions of immigrant families across the country and thousands in North Carolina,” said José Hernández Paris, executive director of the Latin American Coalition, in a statement.
“Ruling in favor of administrative relief means changing the lives of children who will no longer fear growing up without their parents. It means creating communities that thrive because its members can participate more fully in social, civic and economic life. Ruling in favor...will raise wages, create more jobs, increase tax revenues and decrease our federal deficit.”
