Car passenger dies in wreck on N.C. 73 in Huntersville

A 19-year-old woman died Tuesday after police said a speeding car in which she was a passenger crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck in Huntersville.

The wreck happened just before 7:30 p.m. on N.C. 73 near McGuire Nuclear Station.

McKinsey Chance Pleasants died at the scene, police said.

Melissa Elizabeth Clark, 20, the driver of the 2008 Toyota Scion, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

A 16-month-old in the back seat of the car was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening. The driver of the pickup and her passenger also had injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

All of the adults in the vehicles were wearing seat belts. The child was properly restrained in a child safety seat, police said.

Police said Clark was traveling east on N.C. 73 when she appeared to have lost control of her car and crossed the center line.

The car was struck by the pickup in the driver’s side door, police said. Pleasants was in the front right seat of the car.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the case is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Reibold at 704-336-2678 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
