Charlotte-area closings, delays because of winter weather

Several Charlotte-area supermarkets and grocery store chains were open and operating on normal hours Friday, despite a band of snow and freezing rain that coated the region early in the morning.

Managers reached by the Observer said they were unsure whether they would close early because of the weather.

Harris Teeter locations in uptown, Dilworth, Plaza Midwood and the Park Road Shopping Center were open, as were Publix locations in Ballantyne, Steele Creek, Mint Hill and Fort Mill, S.C. Trader Joe’s at the Metropolitan in midtown was open, as well as Whole Foods in SouthPark.

Bank of America delayed opening Friday plans to reassess conditions later in the morning. Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bank both closed. The Charlotte Nature Museum and Discovery Place were closed, and all YMCA of Greater Charlotte branches closed at 9 a.m.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem VIP/Partner and Member Receptions scheduled for Friday night have been canceled. Also canceled: Saturday’s Dance Theatre of Harlem: 40 Years of Firsts Community Opening. The Gantt Center will reopen at noon Sunday.
