Charlotte engineer will chair EMC
Charlotte engineer Steve Rowlan will be the next chairman of the state Environmental Management Commission, which makes rules for air and water.
Rowlan is director of environmental affairs for Nucor, a Charlotte steel company. Gov. Pat McCrory appointed him to the 15-member commission in December.
The EMC will start an annual rotation of the chairmanship, a time-consuming role, in February. Gerard Carroll, also of Charlotte, has served as chair since March and will remain a member of the commission.
