Spill dumps 36,000 gallons of sewage
A broken pipe has spilled 36,000 gallons of sewage into Clems Branch in southern Mecklenburg County.
Charlotte Water said crews responded to the spill near 15823 Sullivan Ridge Road on Thursday.
The utility recorded 177 sewage spills from mid-2014 to mid-2015, the lowest number since 1986. Even so, 200,000 gallons were released.
Grease that clogs pipes causes nearly half of all spills.
