Newton residents without water Wednesday morning
Residents in Newton were without water on Wednesday after a 16-inch water line broke along Northwest Boulevard.
The city shut off water to all customers until the line – a primary trunk line – could be repaired, the city said on its Facebook page at 4:30 a.m.
Water service was expected to remain shut off until at least mid-afternoon, the city announced later.
“Crews are working now to isolate the line and make repairs as quickly as possible,” the city said.
Residents should boil any water they intend to use, the city urged.
The Newton-Conover school system closed for the day, because four of its seven schools were without water. The school system’s maintenance and food services departments, central services and pre-K program also were without water.
Wednesday is an optional workday for staff.
