Charlotte traffic: Wreck with injuries on I-485 at Providence Road

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are at a wreck with injuries on westbound Interstate 485 Inner Loop at Providence Road on Friday morning.

The wreck happened about 8:30 a.m.

Police also are at wrecks in the 1600 block of eastbound Westinghouse Boulevard, on East Independence Boulevard at North Sharon Amity Road and on Providence Road at Country Lane.

Early Friday, police investigated a fatal wreck on Timberway Drive in northeast Charlotte, according to WBTV, the Observer’s media partner. Timberway Drive is off North Tryon Street.

The driver was killed when his pickup truck smashed into a tree, and a passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the station reported.

Police have released no details about the wreck.

In uptown Charlotte, several streets will be closed Friday for the Carolina Panthers pep rally in Romare Bearden Park. Closures include:

▪  Mint Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Fourth Street, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

▪  Third Street between Church and Mint streets, beginning at 11 a.m.

▪  MLK between Church and Mint, starting at 11 a.m.

▪  Westbound MLK between Mint and Graham streets, starting at 11 a.m.

The streets should reopen by 1:30 or 2 p.m.
