Charlotte traffic: Wreck causes University City area power outage
A car crashed into a power pole on Old Concord Road early Friday, knocking out power to 1,360 Duke Energy customers in the University City area.
A second, apparently unrelated outage was reported shortly before 6 a.m. in University City and is affecting 3,200 more customers.
The wreck happened about 1:30 a.m. near East W.T. Harris Boulevard, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Alcohol was a factor in the wreck, and the driver will be charged after being released from the hospital, reported WBTV, the Observer’s media partner. The driver had non-life-threatening injuries.
Duke Energy expects to have power restored by 7 a.m.
