Bus overturns in four-vehicle crash on Monroe Road in Matthews

A closed block of Monroe Road was reopened Friday afternoon after a bus from Matthews Country Day School overturned in a multi-vehicle crash.

Matthews Police reported that four vehicles were involved in the crash about 3 p.m. and that at least two children were on the overturned bus, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

The crash took place near the daycare/after-school center in the 10600 block of Monroe Road in Matthews after a car pulled out from a gas station/convenience store and hit the bus. The bus flipped on its side.

Matthews Police tweeted that the block was closed during the investigation and clean-up, but by 6 p.m. it had reopened. Medic said that eight people were being evaluated and that there were no serious injuries, WBTV said. At least two people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, police said.
