Joe Barone named Statesville police chief
Joe Barone, a 26-year veteran of the Statesville police force, is the city’s new police chief.
Barone, 46, has been acting chief for six months and an assistant chief since 2013.
The job opened in July, when Police Chief Tom Anderson resigned to take a job with the N.C. League of Municipalities.
“In talking with residents, elected officials and other area law enforcement officers, I am certain that Joe is the best person for the job,” City Manager Larry Pressley said in announcing Barone’s selection. “I am very happy to be able to promote from within.”
Barone has been a patrol officer, housing officer, school resource officer, patrol sergeant and captain.
“I know this community, and it knows me,” Barone said.
