The right lane of inbound Independence Boulevard near I-277 will remain closed until 4 p.m. on Friday as crews fix a water main leak.
The N.C. Department of Transportation closed the lane Wednesday night after concerns about water collecting in the road and freezing. That created hazardous driving conditions.
The state DOT has been working with Charlotte Water to determine a cause of the seeping water, according to the Charlotte Department of Transportation. City crews will be on site Friday and will continue to assess the situation.
At 8:15 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were at wrecks on East Woodlawn Road at Nations Crossing Road, on South Boulevard at Clanton Road, on Pecan Avenue at East Seventh Street and on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road at Callabridge Court.
