Charlotte traffic: Police at numerous wrecks Friday morning

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are at numerous wrecks at 9 a.m. Friday, including a wreck with injuries reported on East Third Street at South Caldwell Street.

Police also were at a hit-and-run wreck on West W.T. Harris Boulevard at northbound Interstate 85 and a wreck on East Independence Boulevard at Margaret Wallace Road.

Other wrecks were reported on University City Boulevard at Pavilion Boulevard, in the 1200 block of East 10th Street and in the 1900 block of Hamorton Place in CMPD’s Eastway Division.

The intersection of Tuckaseegee Road and Little Rock Road in west Charlotte remained closed at 9 a.m. due to a wreck about 4:30 a.m. The wreck downed power lines, and Duke Energy workers are replacing a utility pole.

The wreck involved an SUV that smashed into a pole, according to WBTV, the Observer’s media partner. The driver was unruly when police arrived and had to be handcuffed before being taken by ambulance to the hospital, the station reported. The driver had minor injuries.
