A 15-year-old West Mecklenburg High School student died and three people were seriously injured in a one-car wreck Tuesday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.
Heaven Seay was pronounced dead at the scene after a speeding Mitsibishi Eclipse ran off Windy Grove Road and hit a tree, police said. The wreck happened at 9:13 a.m., about two hours after school started, in an area between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Catawba River.
Police released no information about the driver, who was seriously injured, pending notification of family. The other passengers, also identified as students at West Meck, were 18-year-old Gerado Gillen and 17-year-old Esmerelda Hermosillo. Police said they were also seriously hurt and taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said counselors will be available to provide emotional support to West Meck students. No one from the school was immediately available to talk Tuesday afternoon.
