Amtrak train hits unoccupied SUV in west Charlotte
An Amtrak train carrying about 160 passengers hit an SUV that was left on the tracks at Old Dowd Road in west Charlotte early Monday.
No injuries were reported aboard the Crescent line train that travels from New Orleans to New York. The collision occurred near Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Crews were able to remove the unoccupied vehicle from under the train, which continued to its stop in Charlotte. It arrived around 4 a.m., a delay of nearly three hours, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for the driver of the SUV.
