Two people died in a head-on collision in south Charlotte early Sunday caused by a driver traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 485.
The crash happened just after 2 a.m. on the outer loop near Providence Road, according to N.C. Highway Patrol.
The driver, Luis Carlos Menacho, was traveling the wrong way for miles when he eventually hit another vehicle, driven by Victor Castillo, 25. Both were killed.
A third vehicle sideswiped Menacho’s vehicle after the fatal collision, but that driver was not seriously hurt.
Troopers were not able to say if speed or alcohol was a factor.
All I-485 outer loop lanes were closed as troopers investigated the crash.
