Broken pipe blamed for Charlotte sewage spill
About 1,470 gallons of sewage entered Sugar Creek on Thursday because of a broken pipe, Charlotte Water spokesman Cam Coley said.
The spill happened near the 11500 block of Granite Street, off Westinghouse Boulevard. A total of 2,940 gallons spilled, according to Charlotte Water.
Sugar Creek is in the Catawba River Watershed.
State law requires municipalities to issue a news release when 1,000 or more gallons of untreated sewage reaches a river, creek or other body of water.
