Plane catches on fire at Gastonia Municipal Airport
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of an airplane fire at Gastonia Municipal Airport Wednesday night.
The single-engine plane was anchored to the tarmac and showing heavy fire when firefighters arrived at the airport on Gaston Day School Road about 9:20 p.m., said Chris Stowe, spokesman for the Gastonia Fire Department.
Firefighters from the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
Crews used foam to extinguish the flames in about 10 minutes, Stowe said. The plane was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
