Charlotte has hired a Durham official, Kevin Dick, as the city’s new economic development director.

Since 2009, Dick has been Durham’s director for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development as well as executive director of the Durham Workforce Development Board.

He starts the new job on May 9.

Dick replaces Bill Cronin, who held the job for about a year.

He left to become the president and CEO of the Pasco County Economic Development Council in Florida.

Dick will be the city’s point person when recruiting companies and deciding whether to offer them incentives.

He will also oversee the city’s commercial redevelopment and small business programs.
