Temperatures expected to turn frigid in Charlotte

Temperatures are expected to turn frigid early Sunday, with a forecast low of 36 degrees at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Winds could gust as high as 33 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Greer, S.C.

Sunday could reach a high of only 63 degrees, about 5 degrees below normal.

Early Monday’s low is forecast to improve to 42 degrees, with Monday’s high expected to reach 72.

But that could be the last of the warm weather for awhile, as more cool high pressure is expected to return on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s high could hit only 60 degrees, and the low early Wednesday could fall to 35.

Wednesday could reach a high of 63 and Thursday 67, but Friday could plummet to a high of only 59 and Saturday 60.

Sunday through Wednesday should be mostly sunny, before showers become likely Thursday morning, before 10 a.m. The rest of the day should be mostly cloudy.

Sunshine is forecast again Friday and Saturday.
