Cooler temperatures for Charlotte area this week

Cooler temperatures are expected the rest of the week in the Charlotte area.

Tuesday should be sunny, but the forecast high of 59 is about 10 degrees below normal for this day of the year.

And temperatures are forecast to drop into the mid-30s early Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for most of the counties surrounding Mecklenburg, including Union, Cabarrus, Iredell, Lincoln and Catawba, from 2 to 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday should be likewise sunny in Charlotte, with an expected high of 60, according to the National Weather Service in Greer, S.C.

Showers are likely by early Thursday, with the chance at 70 percent.

The chance of rain should fall to 40 percent Thursday afternoon and drop even further by nightfall.

At least it should be warmer Thursday, with a forecast high of 65. But temperatures should cool again into the weekend.

Friday should be mostly sunny, but with a high of only 59.

While Saturday and Sunday also should be sunny, respective highs of only 52 and 60 are forecast.

Temperatures should improve Monday, when a high of 71 is forecast under sunny skies.
