Huntersville police arrest man who attempted robbing Wells Fargo branch
Huntersville police charged 48-year-old Pedro Campillo Galicia with the attempted robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank branch near Northcross Shopping Center on Friday and telling bank employees that he was carrying a bomb in a tan duffel bag, police said Saturday.
The incident tied up traffic at N.C. 73 and U.S. 21 for hours Friday, starting about 4:35 p.m. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police bomb squad was called in to check the bag that had been dropped in a grassy area outside the bank. They determined that the bag contained no bomb or anything dangerous.
Galicia, 48, was caught later near the bank, using a police dog.
He was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and perpetrating a hoax by use of a false bomb. Both of those charges are both felonies.
