Oak Spring Road to close for Monroe Expressway construction
Oak Spring Road in Union County will be closed to through traffic from May 2 until late December to allow for construction of the Monroe Expressway.
The road will be blocked near Stinson Hartis Road. As an alternative to Oak Spring, drivers can take Stevens Mill Road, Idlewild Road and Indian Trail-Fairview Road, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The Monroe Expressway will extend nearly 20 miles from U.S. 74 near Interstate 485 in Mecklenburg County to U.S. 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville in Union County.
The bypass is expected to improve mobility and handle higher traffic volumes. Once the bypass is complete, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority will be in charge of operations.
