Piedmont Natural Gas is kicking off its Earth Week programs by hosting a recycling event Wednesday.

With Earth Day still two days away, the utility’s drive-through recycling event is a drop-off point for shredding paper documents and collecting unwanted electronic equipment.

The fifth annual recycling event will take place in the roundabout outside its corporate office at Piedmont Town Center, off Fairview Road in the SouthPark area.

The event offers the public free shredding of confidential documents and other waste paper. Computer equipment and other used electronics can be donated.

The community initiative in Charlotte has collected more than 9,000 pounds of used computers, electronics and other hard-to-dispose-of items. More than 32 tons of old documents and other waste paper have been recycled.
