Union County to celebrate 50th anniversary of library building
Union County plans to mark the 50th anniversary of its library next month.
The community is urged to drop in at the library at 316 E. Windsor St., Monroe, from 2-5 p.m. May 1 in honor of the anniversary of the building’s dedication. There will be old photos on display, refreshments and a slide show.
The Monroe library is the first public library built in the county, said Patricia Poland, the county’s genealogy and local history librarian.
The library previously had used two other spaces intended for other purposes, part of the Historic Courthouse from 1930-1954 and in the Laney House on East Windsor Street from 1954-1966.
