To mark Earth Week, Charlotte’s Bahá'í community and Park Road Baptist Church will co-host a presentation Sunday by the author of a new book detailing major lifestyle and attitude changes needed to sustain the planet.

Paul Hanley is a Canadian environmental journalist and an adherent of the Bahá’í Faith. The title of his book – “11” – refers to predictions that 11 billion people will be living on Earth by the year 2100.

In his book, Hanley calls for changes in a consumer society that is addicted to everything from urban sprawl to fast food to automobiles. He also proposes a “new agriculture” in which, for example, people in cities would grow more of their own food.

Hanley’s presentation – “Our Ecological Footprint: Does Humanity Have a Future?” – will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road in Charlotte. More details here.
