Inmate, 26, in state prison in Anson County dies from apparent suicide
An inmate apparently killed himself early Saturday in the state-run Lanesboro Correctional Institution in Polkton in Anson County, according a spokeswoman for the state public safety department.
Tony Davis, 26, who was serving 40 years for second degree murder, was found unresponsive about 5 a.m. Saturday. The prison’s medical staff and paramedics tried to revive him, but Davis was later declared dead, the spokeswoman said. Authorities believe he committed suicide, but didn’t say how he died.
Davis had been in prison since June 2014, sentenced to 40 years for the May 2013 fatal shooting of 25-year-old Christian Tobias McLean in Raleigh.
The Polkton Police Department is investigating the death. David Perlmutt
