Hours before its prom was scheduled to begin at the Ritz-Carlton in uptown Charlotte, Hough High announced Saturday that the affair was being moved to Extravaganza Event Center on North Tryon Street.
The school tweeted around 1 p.m. Saturday about the last-minute change.
In a statement, Hough High took responsibility for the mishap.
“The change is due to the miscommunication by the Hough prom-planning committee and not the Ritz-Carlton,” the school said in a statement. “We thank the Extravaganza Center staff for graciously hosting tonight’s prom on short notice and working to provide our seniors with a memorable prom experience.”
There was some concern on social media about the cost difference between the venues. Hough High said it will “assess if any prom ticket refunds will be provided.”
The school encouraged its Twitter followers to tell everyone they knew about the change.
The prom was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and end at midnight.
