Construction of the Blue Line Extension light rail system will interrupt traffic in two locations near North Tryon Street in the days ahead.

The median on North Tryon Street at Owen Boulevard will be closed at 6 a.m. Thursday and will remain closed until 11:59 p.m. May 6, according to the city of Charlotte.

Left turns will be prohibited from North Tryon, but local access to residences will be maintained.

Motorists traveling northbound or southbound North Tryon Street, as well as motorists turning right from Owen Boulevard, will not be affected. City bus service will not be affected.

Closer to uptown, East 16th Street will be closed between North Tryon Street and Parkwood Avenue from 6 a.m. May 2 until 11:59 p.m. May 10.

A detour for westbound motorists will follow Parkwood Avenue, North Caldwell Street, as well as Ninth and North Tryon streets.

The detour for eastbound motorists will follow North Tryon, 11th and North Caldwell streets and Parkwood Avenue. Local access to residences will be maintained.

The $1.16 billion, 9.3-mile LYNX Blue Line Extension will add 11 stations to Charlotte’s light rail system. The northern line will operate between Ninth Street uptown and a final stop north of uptown at UNC Charlotte.
