Charlotte couple charged in death of their infant

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged Basheba Freeman, 20, and Taquan Beecham, 23, on Monday in the death of their infant daughter, Tayara Beecham, who was not yet a year old.

On Sunday, April 24, at 11:46 p.m., officers responded to the 9300 block of Winter Elm Lane in reference to an infant found unresponsive. Medic transported the girl, born in June 26, to Carolinas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives said it was determined the infant was physically assaulted, leading to her death. Freeman and Beecham were transported to police headquarters where they were later charged with homicide due to child abuse, officials said.
