A woman died after she was struck by two vehicles on U.S. 321 in Lenoir Thursday morning, including one that drove away, police said.
Police said the first vehicle hit the woman about 6 a.m. as she tried to cross the road in the 300 block.
Before emergency responders arrived, the second vehicle hit the victim while she was lying in the road, police said. The victim was taken to Caldwell UNC Health Care, where she was pronounced dead.
Police were still trying to identify the victim later Thursday, Lenoir Police Chief Scott Brown said.

Police also are asking the public to help them identify the second vehicle, a dark pickup truck. The make and model are unknown. The truck left the scene traveling north on U.S. 321 (Blowing Rock Boulevard), police said.
