Justin Lamar Richardson needed to go to the bank earlier this week and a woman offered to drive him.
But she wasn’t moving fast enough and he got mad – allegedly taking it out on her miniature chihuahua, then her.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s office, Richardson, 24, picked up the tiny dog from a sofa during the disturbance and threw it against a wall. Then he began assaulting the woman with a plastic trash can, spokesman Tony Underwood said.
“She had noticeable injuries,” Underwood said.

Deputies responding to the incident found the dog – dead – in the woman’s bedroom. Underwood asked that the woman’s relationship to Richardson not be included.
Richardson left before deputies arrived, but was arrested later that day. He faces charges of felony cruelty to animals, assault on a female and communicating threats.
His first court appearance is May 31.
