A speeding driver died when he crashed into an abandoned vehicle as he pulled over for police on Interstate 85 northbound early Saturday.
Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers were northbound on I-85 about 1 a.m. when the speeding vehicle passed their car. Police identified the driver late Saturday as Trevor Lloyd Thomas, 37.
The officers immediately tried to stop the vehicle. As Thomas pulled his vehicle to the left shoulder of the interstate for police at North Graham Street, his auto struck the abandoned vehicle that was on the shoulder, police spokeswoman Officer Jessica Wallin said.
